
Separate isolation from treatment
Isolation reduces sound transfer between spaces. Treatment controls echo inside the room. A project may need one or both, and they should be priced separately.
Room boundary area
Cost is influenced by the wall, ceiling and floor area rather than floor area alone. Openings, columns, beams and service penetrations also affect detailing and labour.
Target performance
A podcast room beside a quiet office needs a different build-up from a music studio near residences. Higher isolation targets can require additional board layers, resilient framing, floating floors, specialist doors and silenced ventilation.
Weak paths
Doors, windows, ducts, cable openings, ceiling voids and rigid connections can limit performance. Treating only the main wall can waste money if the dominant path remains open.
Acoustic treatment quantity
Absorber area depends on room volume, existing surfaces, current reverberation, target RT60 and absorber coefficient. Decorative panels, ceiling clouds and bass control should be selected for the room use.
